FPV Motor Sizes Explained
An FPV motor size like 2207 encodes the stator dimensions: the first two digits are the stator diameter in millimeters (22 mm), the last two are the stator height (7 mm).
Quick reference
| Stator | Typical build | Props | Compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0802–1106 | Tiny whoops, toothpicks | 31–65 mm | 0702 · 0802 · 1103 |
| 1404–1806 | 3–4" builds | 3–4" | 1404 · 1507 · 1804 |
| 2004–2306 | Light 5" / racing | 5" | 2004 · 2306 |
| 2207–2308 | 5" freestyle | 5–5.1" | 2207 · 2208 · 2307 |
| 2506–2807 | 7"+ long range | 6–8" | 2806 · 2807 · 2808 |
Each linked size page lists every motor of that size in the database with its KV options and weight, and the manufacturer thrust figures where they exist. For the props that go with them, see the prop size table.
Diameter vs height
- Wider stator (e.g. 2306): more torque, snappier response, better for heavy props and hard direction changes.
- Taller stator (e.g. 2207): higher top-end RPM, smoother power band.
In practice the 2207-vs-2306 difference is small; pick by weight, price and the KV that matches your battery.
